Ask Matt a question on All Access Campbell was elevated from the North Melbourne rookie list in 2007 and played 13 matches with ten goals in his debut season. He immediately became a fan favourite with his blistering speed and ability to crumb goals. The lightning quick forward, nicknamed 'Flash', played a key role in the club’s 2008 campaign and formed a lethal combination with fellow goal sneak Lindsay Thomas. The number 33 has earned a reputation as being one of the most dangerous small forwards in the league. Many tipped Campbell to play a more significant role through the midfield in 2009, but a hamstring injury ended those plans temporarily. He made a return in round seven and played a starring role in the last gasp win against Port Adelaide with three goals, but persistent hamstring troubles saw him miss much of the middle part of the season. His next comeback was slow and steady and the 2008 International Rules representative played through the VFL before re-entering the AFL for the final six matches of the season.Darren Crocker 2009 review: He couldn't really get going and ended up having three hamstring injuries throughout the year, which knocked him around a bit. In the last couple of games, he was starting to get back to where Matty Campbell needs to be with his football: chasing guys down, pouncing on loose balls. He'll obviously be looking forward to having a good pre-season so he can get back on track. He's pretty important to us.Draft history: 2007 rookie elevation (North Melbourne)First game for North Melbourne: Round 1, 2007 v CollingwoodPlayer honours: International Rules Series 2008Brownlow Medal: 1 career votePlayer sponsors: BigFooty.com North Melbourne Members Group
