Last week: Won by 74 points v Carlton
The Kangaroos have bounced back strongly after their loss to Collingwood with wins against the Bulldogs and Brisbane.

With its finals hopes still alive, North has welcomed a more even spread of contributors. Jack Ziebell and Ryan Bastinac have taken the pressure off Daniel Wells and Andrew Swallow in the midfield and have also allowed Brent Harvey to spend more time forward. Aaron Edwards and Ben Warren have taken the focus off Drew Petrie by providing dangerous targets in attack and the injection of Matty Campbell and Kieran Harper has added some much needed speed around the ground.

Still to prove their worth against the top sides in the competition, Carlton will be sure to give the young Roos a massive challenge.

Carlton has had an interesting month of football and experienced a massive build-up to its match against arch rival Essendon on Saturday night.

After a relatively even first half, the Blues smashed the Bombers into the ground in the third quarter and the game was all but over.

Sitting in fourth place, just two points ahead of West Coast on the ladder, Carlton will be looking to carry its solid form into Friday night's game against the Kangaroos and solidify its place in the top four.

Who's hot?

Ryan Bastinac Eddie Betts
After a slow start returning from a knee injury, Bastinac had one of the finest games of his career against the Lions. 28 disposals and two goals including countless scoring involvements saw the young midfielder back to his best.

With elite endurance and brilliant skills on both sides of his body, Bastinac can be a damaging runner with great decision making under pressure.
Eight goals straight, 14 disposals and four marks against Essendon has Betts in red hot form.

It's a concern for the Kangaroos who haven't handled the small forwards well so far this year.

Last time the sides met it was Lindsay Thomas who dominated, but in his absence unless picked on Thursday, it could be Betts' time to shine.

Keys to winning..

Stop Judd   Stop Petrie

For North to have a hope, the side must find a way to stop the rampaging Chris Judd.

In scintillating form, the dual Brownlow medal winner should warrant a run-with player such as Brady Rawlings, Levi Greenwood or even Jack Ziebell.

Like St Kilda did a few weeks back, Carlton will be looking to limit Drew Petrie's impact on the game.

Coach Brett Ratten may have to generate a spare defender to occupy the space in front of North's vice-captain after he tore Brisbane's Matt Maguire apart last week one-on-one.

Match winners

Brent Harvey   Kreuzer and Warnock

North's captain is due for a big game and no-one loves the spotlight more than Harvey - the club's first and only Friday night match could provide the ideal stage for him to put on a show.

With more attention being given to Daniel Wells and Andrew Swallow, Harvey may be afforded more room to run and create than ever before against Carlton.

It could be a case of Carlton's twin towers against North's lonely giant with Kreuzer and Warnock teaming up on Todd Goldstein.

North looks unlikely to bring in Hamish McIntosh at this point in time which means Goldstein will have to go it alone for much of the match.

It's an area Carton could look to exploit and the Roos will have to rely on Drew Petrie and Cam Pedersen to step in at the stoppages when needed.

Unheralded heroes

Scott McMahon   Heath Scotland
He flies under the radar but Scott McMahon has put together a brilliant fortnight of football. He had 19 possessions against the Bulldogs and 19 again against the Lions and has provided some excellent defensive work for his team of late.

A good user of the ball with under-rated athleticism, McMahon can be used forward or back and North will be needing him to continue his recent run.

With the likes of Chris Judd, Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs in the line-up, there's always going to be players who miss out on some attention. Scotland is one of those and quietly goes about his business week in, week out for Carlton.

His experience leads him to the footy and he is always among the top possession winners for the Blues. Opposition sides ignore him at their peril.

In the box

Brad Scott   Brett Ratten
Highly rated, Scott's ability to keep his young side focused after some disappointments has been outstanding.

Always one to teach rather than preach, the second year coach has made some big inroads for the club in 2011 and a win again Carlton will keep North's finals hopes alive.

Out of contract at the end of the year, Ratten is mainstay in the football pages in the daily newspapers whether it be celebrating a win, or defending a loss.

Such is the scrutiny on a big club like Carlton, Ratten often finds himself the talk of the town. A win against the Roos may keep the critics quiet for another week but a loss will see the blow torch placed firmly on him once again.
