Last week: Bye

Last week: Lost by 30 points v Carlton
A week off has allowed North Melbourne to freshen up and make an assault on the final three games of the Home and Away season. The loss to Hawthorn in round 20 was deflating and taxing so the break came at the right time for the Kangaroos.

Injuries have hit the Dockers hard and their hopes of playing in finals again get slimmer by the week. Aaron Sandilands returned but was underdone and along with his team-mates, fought gallantly in a 30-point loss to Carlton.

Who's hot?

Matt Campbell   Alex Silvagni
The man nicknamed ‘Flash’ almost single-handedly won the match against Hawthorn with an inspirational five-goal haul in Launceston. His career best game was achieved in the most difficult conditions.

In and out of the North side for the past few seasons with injury troubles, Campbell showed why he is so highly rated at Arden Street and gave the rest of the football world a glimpse of what he’s capable of.
Originally picked from the VFL and promoted from the rookie list, Silvagni is proving to be one of the real success stories in the AFL.

He’s already kept Lance Franklin goalless this year and had 17 touches and nine marks against the Blues last weekend. The talented backman might have another challenge on his hands this week with Drew Petrie a potential opponent.

Keys to winning..

Tall timber   Unleash Ballantyne

Fremantle has plenty of tall-timber and North will have to work with Todd Goldstein to cut them down to size. It may mean utilising a third man up at the stoppages in order to negate Sandilands’ influence.

Getting first use of the ball will be crucial with the Kangaroos’ midfielders more than able to match it with the best in the competition.

Hayden Ballantyne ran amok last time the sides met in Perth and North has struggled to shut out down its opposition’s small forwards so far this season.

Ballantyne should be licking his lips at the thought of playing against the Roos for the second time this year and could be the difference.

Time to stand up

Lindsay Thomas   Matthew Pavlich
After showing some positive signs in the VFL and then having a quiet game against Hawthorn, Lindsay Thomas will be looking to make a big impression against a side he has performed well against in the past.

A hard worker and dangerous around goal, it’s also Thomas’ defensive pressure that will be needed on Saturday night.

Pavlich has been heavily criticised for having a minimal impact in games that matter most and this week the Freo captain will have a chance to stamp his authority on a must-win match.

Although considered a superstar, Pavlich falls short of being regarded as a genuine champion of the game in the eyes of some due to his inability to perform when the heat is on.

MVP's

Drew Petrie   Nathan Fyfe
When North’s vice-captain dominates, the rest of the side walks taller and the Roos often go on to secure a win. In career best form, the full-forward can blow a game apart and win it off his own boot.

A brilliant contested mark overhead and on the lead, Petrie has gone from strength to strength in 2011 and will be a massive focus for the Dockers at Etihad Stadium.

Young and highly skilled, Fyfe’s precision and rebound is invaluable. He’s only played 37 games but could be an All-Australian.

Lightly built, the Dockers rely heavily on the youngster and a massive amount of responsibility will again fall on his shoulders when he runs out against the Kangaroos. So crucial to the club’s future, Fremantle moved quickly to sign him up until the end of 2014.

Under the radar

Scott McMahon   Antoni Grover
He has all the attributes and skill, but McMahon is far from a household name. Recently however, the defender has taken his game to a new level and starred against the Hawks recording a career high 29 possessions.

While he may not be a big talking point in Fremantle’s opposition analysis meetings, they will be caught out if he’s not paid the right amount of respect. Likely to match up on Ballantyne, the number 42 will try and hurt the Dockers on the rebound.

A veteran in defence, Grover often takes the opposition’s key forward to the cleaners. In round four, he held Drew Petrie to a solitary goal.

With Luke McPharlin in the spotlight more often than not, Grover quietly goes about his business and may end up having to cover Cam Pedersen or Aaron Edwards.

Ready to return?

Daniel Pratt   A star trio
A stellar game at VFL level has Pratt poised to make a return for the Kangaroos. Hard at the ball and the man, Pratt has found the going tough in 2011 with several players performing well down back and keeping him out of the side.

After 30 disposals and two goals for North Ballarat on the wing, he will be unlucky to miss out on a spot this week.

David Mundy, Rhys Palmer and Kepler Bradley could all return this week after being listed as ‘test’ on the Fremantle’s latest injury report.

Bradley has been effective in the games he’s played against North while Mundy’s ability to win the footy is extremely valuable. Palmer has missed the past two weeks with injury but is star in the making.
