North took a cautious approach with Black, allowing him to ease his way back with North Ballarat in the VFL after his groin troubles of 2010. Black played 17 games with the Roosters and kicked 31 goals, including a five-goal haul against Bendigo in round 21.

His late-season form earned him a senior debut against Richmond in round 24, when he kicked a goal and led well early. Looms as one of 2012’s big improvers if he can stay healthy.
