An excellent kick, North’s chief defensive playmaker regularly takes the kick-ins and is fed the ball to launch counter-attacks. McMahon is also capable of shutting down dangerous small forwards, his defensive bent underlined by his No.2 ranking for one-percenters (107) at the Roos in 2011. He is also a deceptively strong mark, finishing seventh at the club for contested marks (16).
