Ask Cruize a question on All Access An exciting small forward with excellent pace and goal sense, Garlett is clever and hard at the ball. He had a taste of senior WAFL footy with Perth in 2007, and also played in Western Australia's victorious side in the 2007 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Garlett was rookie listed by North Melbourne in 2008 and was part of North Ballarat's premiership winning side at VFL level, impressing in the Grand Final. A strong pre-season prompted a call-up for the NAB Cup against Carlton, and only an injury stopped Garlett from a promotion to the senior list for the first half of the year. The number 32 made his return in the VFL and quickly caught the attention of North Melbourne selectors with some dominant performances through the midfield for the Roosters. It wasn't long before Garlett was awarded with a promotion to the senior list, and in Round 12 he made his debut against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium. He would go on to play five games for the season and play an important role in the Kangaroos' wins against St Kilda and Port Adelaide. Darren Crocker 2009 review: He's one bloke who has just grown and grown. Once he got elevated onto the senior list and played some senior footy towards the end of the year, he showed he could actually play at the level. His standout game was going onto Leigh Montagna against St Kilda; playing on him and still finding a fair bit of the footy. Even in the last game we put him on Danyle Pearce at times and a few other different opponents and he was still able to get 23 touches in that game. It was really pleasing for him.
