Read Jack Ziebell's pre-season Spotlight On

Ziebell was North Melbourne’s first round draft selection at the 2008 National Draft, after surprisingly slipping through to pick nine.

A 188cm midfielder, he has excellent skills by foot and is tough in the contest. He has strong leadership skills, and is expected to be a future leader of the North Melbourne Football Club.

Hailing from the Murray Bushrangers, Ziebell was prolific in his team’s TAC Cup premiership averaging 18 possessions and two goals a game. He also represented Victoria Country at the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships and gained All-Australian honours.

The Roos first round pick made an immediate impact at senior level in 2009, booting two goals in his team's NAB Cup match against Carlton. He was rewarded for his early good form with a debut in round one against Melbourne, and went on to play the first seven games of the season.

After picking up 23 possessions and a goal against Port Adelaide in round seven, Ziebell was recognized as an up and coming player with a NAB Rising Star nomination.

What looked to be a dream first season took a turn for the worse after Ziebell broke his leg following a courageous dive at the ball against Adelaide in round 12. He missed the remainder of the season.

Darren Crocker 2009 review:
He's got a real hard factor about him with his attack on the ball and his tackling, as well as a bit of class with the way he uses the footy and sees the game unfold. He's going to be a real talent for us in years to come. On the back of missing the second half of the year, he needs a good pre-season so he can really develop in a midfield role.
